Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the United States Figure Skating (USFS) is the national, governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States. USFSA is a member of the International Skating Union (ISU) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).
USFS is one of the strongest and fastest growing governing bodies within the Olympic movement. Currently, there are more than 173,000 members of USFS, including more than 1,000 volunteers who serve on the USFSA Executive Committee, Board of Directors and numerous committees.
New 2016 USFS has launched a new Learn to Skate Program which is the old Basic Skills program. This was developed by USFS, Hockey Association and Speed Skater association. This is approved and endorsed by the Professional Skaters Association (PSA), which is recognized as the authority in coaching education and certification. In addition the Hockey and Speed Skating Associations were also invoved in the development of this new program.
“In today’s fast-paced world, children juggle more tasks than ever. Learn to Skate USA teaches your kids lessons to sharpen their focus and provide greater balance on and off the ice. As they conquer challenges on their paths to amazing, new worlds well beyond the world of skating will happen right before their eyes.”
The Learn to Skate program curriculum is similar to the original USFSA Basic Skills Program. The new program consists of the Snowplow Sam, Basic Skills 1-6, prepre freestyle and Freestyle levels, as well as a number of class categories not currently offered by UASC (although we hope to have some guest coaches bring these to us in the near future! ). The above listed levels are set up in a comprehensive lesson and test structure that is exciting, rewarding, safe, and fun. Whether it is a skater’s dream to compete in the Olympics or just to enjoy recreational skating, they will benefit from participating in a Learn to Skate/USFS Skills program.
The UASC is a member of the USFS and Learn to Skate programs and a fully sanctioned club.
